Working Girl [ME]

Therapist — For a sizable portion of my life, I wanted to be a therapist. I’m fairly psychologically astute and have long been one whom people turn to for help with their problems. I’d like to do the job for real for a while.

Actress — Of course, I mean a “good” actress—a star. Not only would I love to try the job, I’d also like to see what it’s like to be famous for a day.

Teacher — Although I’ve taught college continuing-ed classes, I’ve long wanted to teach a custom high-school course that integrates grammar, logical thinking, and writing. I know I can teach, but survive teenagers? I’m not so sure.

Toll Booth Operator — Most of my career was spent in high-stress, deadline-driven work. I always thought how nice it would be to work as a toll booth operator, where all I’d have to do is collect money, smile, and wish everyone a happy day.

Priest — I think it’s outrageously unfair that women can’t be priests in the Catholic church. And while I no longer practice any religion, I would reconsider it if I could be a Catholic priest. There’s so much I’d do differently, starting with helping women discover and develop their sacred identities.
